Academic and Education Support Services
Bridges provides homeschool support for families needing individualized adapted learning plans or academic state testing. Together we will design an annual plan and break this down into manageable sections. Some families choose to meet quarterly, and others meet on a regular monthly or weekly basis.
Homeschooling was intended to bring the education out of the brick and mortar environment and make use of the home and community environment, as well as the wealth of mentors and collaborators in your area. Together we will design an appropriate education that intertwines the book learning with developmentally appropriate real life lessons.
High School and Beyond
Is your student on a different path toward graduation? Would a modified high school plan and transcript be a better match. For students struggling, there is the option for a modified transcript and diploma. If you would like help to design a program, select curriculum, and create a modified diploma we can examine this option and create the journey that best matches the potential and options for your student. For regular diplomas, I defer to BasicSkills to monitor and transcribe the typical homeschool diploma.
Jilene Modlin M.Ed. is a diverse and highly experienced educator with several decades of teaching the Deaf, freelance ASL interpreting, academic and college counseling for homeschoolers, developing hybrid-homeschool programs, directing the Oregon Homeschool Science program (held at OMSI), and homeschooling her own children into college. Jilene is currently in the final stages of her Doctoral dissertation, focusing on homeschooling resources for twice-exceptional (gifted and special education) students.
Privately Developed Plan (PDP)
Is your student struggling academically? Would having a Privately Developed Plan (PDP) written specifically for your child with recommended textbooks and learning materials be a help to you? Would you like the pressure of mandatory achievement testing removed for your special needs student?
Jilene has thirty years of education knowledge and training for working with students needing unique learning approaches as well as accessing alternative education settings. She has developed connections throughout the state to bridge homeschooling, traditional school, and education testing (private and ESD), as well as offer personalized support through advising or personalized learning plans.
Homeschool Standardized Achievement Testing with Accommodations
Standardized Testing for Homeschoolers is required in Oregon by state law for grades 3, 5, 8, and 10. Testing can also be provided annually to give progress feedback to families. Bridges administers the Terra Nova Survey Form (formerly California Achievement Test CAT). Due to the volume of requests, I only administer state testing for students needing alternative settings or testing strategies. I am able to provide accommodations that would be permitted for IEP or 504 and will note these in the comprehensive report. After consulting, testing is administered one-to-one in a mutually decided low-stress location for best testing results.
Confidential test results are scored through Basic Skills. A comprehensive report is provided with a letter stating observations, recommendations, and results. Please keep a copy for yourself, a second copy is kept on file in my office for one year.
